Renewing Our Sense of Wonder

Happy Easter! I love that Easter comes in the spring. The natural world around us is slowly coming back to life as this majestic symbol of the resurrection of Jesus Christ – all of this is so amazing! My husband Andy and I have been doing our best to teach our son, little Theo, about creation and Jesus. We love taking him on nature walks and explaining all the sights and sounds as we travel. Recently he has fallen in love with a natural beauty I forget to adore: Rocks. Check it out!

But the truth is, creation is so amazing it is sometimes hard to explain. How do you explain ancient trees, the rushing river, the sunset? I find this true when it comes to explaining the story of Jesus – it is so extraordinary! Walking and talking with Theo has helped me appreciate God’s creation and Jesus’ love in fresh, new ways.

Listen to Job’s description of God’s handiwork:
“But ask the animals, and they will teach you,
or the birds in the sky, and they will tell you;
or speak to the earth, and it will teach you,
or let the fish in the sea inform you.
Which of all these does not know
that the hand of the Lord has done this?
In his hand is the life of every creature
and the breath of all mankind.”
(Job 12:7-10)

This month, join me in renewing your sense of wonder. Spend some time in prayer thanking God for the things in nature and the things about Jesus that capture your attention. Thank God as if you were just experiencing God’s goodness for the first time. Focus on gratitude this spring.
