Children & Youth
What is Christian Education at Indian Heights United Methodist Church? Here at Indian Heights, we feel we are all co-learners. We are co-learners together. We understand that it takes all of us together (eating, playing, serving, and worshipping). We believe, in order to best resemble the Image of God, we need to learn in community. What this means is- it does not matter how young or how old you are, or where you are on your spiritual journey. There is something you can offer and there is something you can teach us. We learn from one another. We teach one another. We are a learning community.
The Christian Education Committee meets once a month. These meetings function as times of evaluation, encouragement, and creativity. The function of the Christian Education Committee is to provide... well... Christian Education, through such experiences as Sunday School, Small Groups, Short-Term Studies, Mission Trips, Vacation Bible School, and so on.
Children Focused Weekly Events - Wednesday Nights 7-8. The church provides discipleship opportunities every 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month for children, up to 6th grade. The 1st Wednesday of each month is always a lesson relevant to whatever might be going on in the church season. The 3rd Wednesday of the month is always Barnabas. What is Barnabas? Barnabas is a man we discover in the New Testament. His name literally means "Son of Encouragement." Once a month we set aside an hour to hand-make encouraging cards for the people in our congregation and community.
Youth Focused Weekly Events - Sunday Afternoons 4:30-6. Every Sunday afternoon we have traditional Youth Group, from 4:30-6. Youth group is open to 6th-12th graders.
Youth Mission Trips - The youth of Indian Heights take a mission trip each year. Some years we travel many miles, while other years we serve directly in our community. Short term mission trips are yet another great way to provide Christian discipleship.

Baptism & Membership
Baptism - Baptism is the beginning of a life long journey with God. In the United Methodist Church, persons may be baptized as infants, youth, or adults and by sprinkling, pouring, or immersion. Baptism is a covenantal act to be celebrated in worship, with both the individual (or parents) and congregation taking vows of confession and commitment. Baptism is an outward and visible sign of the Grace of God. Because it is God's act and dependent on God's faithfulness not ours, it does not need to repeated. All persons wishing to be baptized should contact the pastor.
Requirement for Church Membership: baptism (if not already baptized), profession of faith and/ or transfer of membership from another congregation, and vows to be faithful to this congregation with your prayers, presence, gifts, and service. If interested in becoming a member, please contact the pastor. Periodic membership classes/meetings are offered for prospective members.
